White smoke usually means water in the exhaust somewhere, is it turning over ok?

Yeah, water in the exhaust could suggest cylinder head gasket fault, worst case scenario.

Check all the usual suspects, glow plugs working properly, test lamp to the earth, positive to main feed wire on any glow plug terminal, switch ignition on, light should be lit for a few seconds then go out.

You may have one plug failed, to test one at a time, remove the wires going to each plug and put test lamp to earth and touch each plug terminal one at a time, if the light lights, each plug is working, no light, faulty plug.

How long has it been sitting? Battery? (2 very simples ideas).
