406 96n 1.9td charging prob please help

hi all im new to this forum just before xmas i was made redundant and my car had to go back to the finance company anyway i needed a solid run around car and found myself with the 406 1.9td anyway it has been fine all over xmas no probs starting etc seems like a good engine the prob i have is when i start it it starts and idles with the battery light lit i rev the engine and it goes out the other things am noticing is the heaters slow down on tickover and lights dim i rev and heaters speed up and lights go bright, i think the car has had a recent battery change am i right in saying this could be a alternator fault the regulator gone poss???? please help need the car to stay alive get me through these hard times

I'd phone round the breakers yards for a new alternator. Someone else may be able to say what other engines have a compatible one...Might be an idea to fit a new alternator belt while you're at it just in case...

Does sound like the regulator, have a look on ebay or check the breakers as mjb says!

hi thanks very much for your speedy replys, would the alt of a citroen zx 1.9 diesel fit i have been told this is the same engine can anybody confirm this
