Hi all
just brought a 98 D8 406 2.1 TD GLX estate with 98k.
I pick it up next week after it's been MOT'd.
What I wont to know is how do I blank off the EGR valve and will it have any bad effects ?
Also how do I change my user name from mark806 ?

There's no way to do it yourself

How do you mean? Do you mean it's physically impossible to remove, or you need specialist equipment, or something else?

Why would you want to block off the EGR valve?
You can go into the ECU, if the EGR valve is controlled by the ECU on your car, and switch off the function of the valve.
My son's Astra, which has a common fault with EGR valves, is usually fixed by taking out the valve and giving it a real good clean with carb cleaner, at the same time cleaning out the throttle body.
The fault with the Astra is jerky running, bad starting, and cutting out at junctions.
My friend with a diagnostic machine advised me to have him switch off the funtion in the ECU. I'm quite happy to just clean everything out once in a while.

As far as I remember taking off the egr yields a small power improvement on the 1.9, maybe for the 2.1 but I think it helps heat the cat up so maybe it'll end up full of soot.
The egr's controlled with a vaccum pipe controlled by a solenoid, how about just disconnecting the pipe?

As far as I can see, you can just remove the vacuum pipe from EGR, it goes to a valve on the bulhead.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

I was thinking of a blanking plate as it comes out the exhaust, but I don't pick the car up untill Thursday so haven't had chance to have a good look yet.
Is there a Haynes manual for the 2.1

Could this be taken to infer that a D8 needs a little TLC from time to time, or do you just read it to see how much simpler it is compared to your D9?

What else am I meant to do in the bog?
I mean, as opposed to the turbo, the 2.2, the HPi and the V6s which Haynes don't seem to care about. Oh, and the coupe.
