Eeeek! What is this dangly bit?

Looking under the bonnet today I noticed this hanging down;
Can anyone tell me what it is, and where it should either connect to or bolt to? Looking at the starting problems thread it looks like it should be attatched to the throttle body, is that right? The holes don't appear to line up.

Can't say I recognise it or the connector, but I've seen plastic that colour/texture before around my old tubby's throttle body -
http://gallery.botchitt.com/406/throttle/
Could well just be the plug for something not fitted they've put something on just to keep the connector dry. Unplug the connector (see the silver bit on the green bit? push it in from the side opposite your thumb (took welly to tell me how to undo them

) and pull). Then lets get some decent pics of the board with 3 connectors
If you want to know exactly what the plug's for (you'll hate me for this), strip a bit of the outer sleeve off and tell me what numbers are written on the wires

With the pug/cit cars they do have a habit of making universal looms in that the lower spec models may not have oil temp sensor etc, but the higher spec ones do.
Im sure if you could find wire number youll be able to find what it is for in the haynes or something.
Where abouts on the engine bay is it?

Thanks for the replies.
mjb ~ your throttle body looks different to mine. I'll take a photo of mine tomorrow.
munfred ~ I'll see if I can get a better photo, and wire numbers. It's at the front of the engine bay, and was just dangling down. To be honest, the only thing I can see it reaching is the throttle body, unless it goes in some secret hidy place. Again, I'll take better photo's tomorrow.

i'd expect it to look different! For one, it's only the tubby that has the round bit the throttle cable goes into mounted on top of it with a linkage (damn teamy, i saw it today!

not got an envelope or stamp tho

) connected to the throttle

I spent all afternoon looking at that picture on my pc at home and couldn't make head nor tail of it - what is that weird gold and silver stuff behind your hand? Then I take one look at it on this knackered old laptop screen and it's... gravel
Is there any circuitry or broken off connectors on the back of that? The unused connectors on my D8 just dangle, I can't see why they'd bother fitting an extraneous bit of plastic

If the connector is unused then the plastic bit attached to it probably attaches to something else to stop it dangling.

So to summarize then.... I need to take some decent pictures!
I'll sort it tomorrow. Cheers for the help so far.

I've got one of those!!
I assumed it was a redundant connector for something my car hasn't got (which could be lots of things).

Its for an oil temp sensor,if you look at your sump you will see the hole that its ment to be in( same bolt as your drain plug) but on the side of the sump.
