antipollution fault

hi all,

i already get the feeling from a few google searches that this has probably been discussed to death but ive read - and im still confused :|

people have said with the antipollution fault that they get the engine warning light, then the car goes into 'limp' mode of 2,500rpm max but i dont get any of that (thankfully!) all that happens is the message flashes up once after i start the car and goes away for the duration of the journey. is it worth just ignoring?

i **think** its just 2.0 petrol, i dont know how the hdi model is different :oops:

On your petrol engine if it's performng ok otherwise and not guzzling petrol unduely then leave it alone (unless you really want to ebmark on code reads and replacing random parts untill it's sorted).

How/why is it different on the hdi? What is hdi?

hdi is diesel :)

well that is quite a clear cut difference :lol:

why is it more important on the diesels than the petrols? and how do i get the ecu codes?

did some searching and saw an old topic viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4727&p=45769&hilit=ecu+code#p45769 is it worth just doing the same and leaving the ecu plug disconnected for half hour? and would the plug be under that big black cover on the left? is it clear which plug it is?

Anti pollution fault on the Diesel is expensive news but on the petrol it can be just a 'soft' fault.

Someone else on here had this fault on a petrol I'm sure but it came to nothing really important.

If you go to Peugeot they will charge £60.00 ish for a 'Global Test' and if you get a decent 'technician' he will pin point the fault in no time but if you get the "I don't care" man then they will try to replace the ECU, the Engine, Bodyshell, wheels.........

A good independant place with the most up to date diagnostic equipment should be able to help too but as I said if it's not drinking fuel or missfiring etc then you may just leave it I suppose :|

lol thanks

is it worth just doing the ecu un-plug/battery disconnect for half hour or would i likely get myself into more trouble (sods law)

car drives fine, but seems to work hard when going harder speeds but then i have another post about that viewtopic.php?f=1&t=6502

oh, yes - new cars are always fun, especially when on a budget as your last one snapped a timing belt at the worst possible time :frown:

Yup, that's why I asked.

Get it occasionally when starting, but the engine mgt light goes out, nowt to worry about.

If it comes up for a few consecutive starts and the engine management light stays on with it then you need to be thinking about getting it checked out.

I've had the antipolution fault (for several starts) twice, the first was the EGR valve (£272), the second was a Oxygen sensor, came on when the weather was very wet one day, then went away again when it dried out. I've cleared the fault code and it hasn't come back yet.... *Leans on Ikea immitation wood desk :roll: *.

im going to *try* and not let it bother me lol, will go for a basic spark, oil and air filter change with fingers crossed and failing that wait till i can spend £60 at a dealer getting a diag done then see how the land lies.
