Now What No. 4,972,463

I'm not even sure if I need to say anything, I drive an 11 year old car that's probably done more than 300,000km, what do I expect? :|

Symptoms: Whirring noise (yesterday), drops of red stuff on the snow (this morning), jerky steering (this evening).

Cause: Main PAS HP line fractured in front of the clutch. The reservoir was empty, I tried putting some more in but it pi$$ed out.

Cost: 917Kn (110 quid) from Pug, plus fluid & labour. Not sure when though. My mate's going to try and source one elsewhere but, seeing as how it's specific to the 2.1td 406, I can't really see that happening. I just hope I didn't kill the pump by being too lazy to check the noise out

Anyway, carry on. Nothing to see here.

Nah, can't drive it like that or I really will kill the pump, looks like I'll be walking to my house and back for a while. Ah well, I am getting a tad porky. Ironically, only this morning I was joking with my mate how his ancient Kadette (think Mk 2 Ashtray) was a pile of cack but had nothing to go wrong, one of the things mentioned was it's got no PAS. Neither's mine now

Is that the pipe assembly under the radiator that is very long and runs backwards and forwards under the rad? I had one to fix over the summer, I did a temporary repair until the guy had enough money.

I used a piece of high pressure rated rubber hose (brake servo piping) and four jubilee clips.Worked a treat for three months, I still have the old one, I kept it in case I had to do the same for someone.

I can see that on the diagram, looks like some sort of cooling arrangement on the return side because it runs backwardas and forwards under the rad 4 times. Mine's the main HP pipe that goes from the pump to the rack, my first thought was why can't I replace it with a lump of copper microbore but my mate says it won't be up to it and, judging by the size of the crimps, I guess he has a point.

I'm still going to measure it though...

Any reason you couldn't use a std hydraulic hose, (if it's not rigid enough tie wrap it to the original)?

Is this a part I or another member could source from a scrappy and mail out to you?

Interesting idea. I'm not sure how it would connect to the original but I reckon I'm going to be asking about it tomorrow.

Hmm, maybe shove about 6" of the metal pipe inside and use 6 jubilees... Not pretty but it's gotta be cheaper than the real thing.

Ooh, that's tempting :cheesy: Trouble is it's specific to the 2.1td so it might not be that easy. My biggest issue just now (apart from the cost) is being without a car for a week. Let's see what happens tomorrow.

Ajoj! Give me a chance to reply!

Peugeot only, no stock in the country :( My mate's now playing the "knows a guy who knows a guy" game, I thought that maybe, in a country where everyone drives a tractor and everyone's pišš-poor there'd be more in the way of individuals/companies that can make up hydraulic stuff but it don't look like it. I also did some investigation, the pipe looks to me to be about 10mm, the same as the copper stuff that feeds heating oil to the boiler here which uses compression fittings. The trouble is they're only designed to handle a couple of bar and PS pumps develop about 75.

And if I have to say "because the car doesn't work" to my troll-in-law one more time I won't be responsible for my actions.

According to" Pirtek" they have operators in Croatia, but I would try a plant hire firm or someone with a digger 'cos they're getting hydraulic hoses repaired all the time. Brass compession fittings won't work but steel ones will if you can get them.
They're used on trucks for air lines.
