Fuel Flap Crap

Not long after i was admiring the solid, good quality fuel flap that comes with pug 406's (compared to the jap cars that are essentially a thin piece of metal attached to a large spring), It broke. Now i have to use quite a bit of skill to put pressure on the flap while sticking my toes to lift the lever.
Has anyone had this happen to them before and is this easily repairable?
Due to the fact that I drive a HDi which can do over 800 miles to a tank

, I don't really know much about the mechanics of the fuel flap

I seem to remember reading that someone fixed theirs using the spring from a wooden clothes peg, do a search, i'm sure it's there somewhere.

Sorry

You had the correct thread though, which is useful for me anyway, mine is faulty as well, don't tell the wife that I know how to fix it, I've been promising to fix it for ages

Mine was replaced with the pukka gubbins by the garage I bought it from a year or two earlier, had been sprayed a 'perfect match'.

Unfortunately, it wasn't laquered. Now it's a completely different shade.

the hinge on mine that the spring pushes against broke
i got a new door from the scrap yard, separated the flap (it had a back and a front, stuck together)
seperated my broken one
stuck the new bit from the scrappy to my front bit and put it back together
took 5 mins
