2.1TD Upper Alternator Tensioner

Post by chrisbell37 »

Hi,

I have just bee told by my garage that the upper sprung alternator belt tensioner is knackered and they had quoted me £80 to fix it.

Does anyone know where I could get a low cost replacement that they know of? (not a scrap yard)

also, does anyone know where I can download the 406 2.1td workshop manual from?

I have been searching for these two but havent had much look

Thanks

Chris

Hold on, I think I'm looking at the wrong thing.... That's the cam belt tensioner, no-one seems to list an aux belt tensioner for the 2.1, looks like it's in two parts and it's not cheap :( (You sure you don't want one from the breakers?)

not being funny, but there is no way i would fit a second hand cam belt tensioner, thats just risking your engine.

if its not the cambelt one and is indeed for the alternator, yeah get a second hand one if it seems descent enough

I'm with you on this one, I have just done this job myself, I bought a complete kit (belt, idler and tensioner) brand new from a place I found on ebay in Wakefield and when I remember the name I'll post it. I also replaced the crankshaft pulley due to a nick in it.
406 estate, 2.1TD, I fixed her, then part exchanged her for a Mercedes E300TD Avantgarde Estate.
Hmmmm, straight 6 goodness!
