Hi,
I have just bee told by my garage that the upper sprung alternator belt tensioner is knackered and they had quoted me £80 to fix it.
Does anyone know where I could get a low cost replacement that they know of? (not a scrap yard)
also, does anyone know where I can download the 406 2.1td workshop manual from?
I have been searching for these two but havent had much look
Thanks
Chris

Hold on, I think I'm looking at the wrong thing.... That's the cam belt tensioner, no-one seems to list an aux belt tensioner for the 2.1, looks like it's in two parts and it's not cheap
(You sure you don't want one from the breakers?)

not being funny, but there is no way i would fit a second hand cam belt tensioner, thats just risking your engine.
if its not the cambelt one and is indeed for the alternator, yeah get a second hand one if it seems descent enough

1997 2.1TD executive estate - mmmm, lovely

Re: 2.1TD Upper Alternator Tensioner
I'm with you on this one, I have just done this job myself, I bought a complete kit (belt, idler and tensioner) brand new from a place I found on ebay in Wakefield and when I remember the name I'll post it. I also replaced the crankshaft pulley due to a nick in it.
406 estate, 2.1TD, I fixed her, then part exchanged her for a Mercedes E300TD Avantgarde Estate.
Hmmmm, straight 6 goodness!
