hi
i have a petrol 406 with air con and had a big stop light come on yesterday. took it to the dealer who ran it and told me the head gasket might have gone, radiator leaking and colling fan not working. however i put oil in it and thats ok but now my temp guage goes over 90 when doing only 3 miles. Help please as there was no leaks or problems before i took it to the dealer and i really dont want to lose the car as its only done 89k.

If the radiator's leaking you'll want a new one, what's the coolant level like?
You DEFINITELY want the fan fixing if it's not working
Head gasket failure is easy to spot - if there's stuff that looks like mayonnaise around the filler cap or on the dipstick, the gasket's gone

hiya
dipstick clear just oil and no stuff round filler cap. slight water on floor this morning but not much however will check when go home on the floor. garage didnt tell me which fan and when i rang today the said i would have to book it in (yea right). how do i find out which fan has gone as worried about using car due to increase in temp on gauge after 2*-3 miles.
cheers

hi
this may show twice as ithought id submitted it but he ho.
there is no stuff round the filler and the dipstick just has oil on it. garage cant tell me which fan has gone, they want me to book it in! topped up coolant levels so they should be fine. there was a bit of water on the floor this morning but has been told to use radweld or some new stuff called k light? what should i do as dont really want to get rid but also dont want to spend a fortune.
cheers

Yeah sorry mate, your first 5 posts have to be mod approved before they show up - anti-spamming measure
Tell us more about this water on the floor this morning? If the radiator is leaking (even a tiny bit) then the system can't reach the intended pressure so it gets hotter than normal... you could try radweld or equivalent if it's only a small leak, but it would be good to know where it's coming from.
Head gasget could be gone between the water jacket and one of the cylinders, you wouldn't get emulsion in the oil then, but you'd probably get bubbles of exhaust gas coming back through the cooling system, the way to check for that is a sniff test at the expansion bottle.

it appears radiator is leaking,(has some blue stuff on it) but have been told to try this k seal, hubby checked the head gasket seems ok, there is abig pipe in front of the rad and it is cold when it should be hot apparently. The air con and fan is working as we let it run last night and the fan kept cutiing in as normal but after the temp got to 100-110 it stayed on ? going to drain it down on weekend and refill. does anyone know where the Bitron sensor is on the 406 turbo petrol as the book we have doesn't cover it and am having difficulty locating it.
