When i turn the key on my HDI before it actually starts there is a buzzing which it has done for the last 3 years which i presume is normal, however today i did it and it sounds a lot rougher than usual is this the pump in thetank if so anyone know how much it costs to replace if i do the job myself.

Hi there adam, yes its the low pressure pump letting you know its not got much
life left in it , you can reckon on between £125 and £130 for one from main stealers
and not to bad a job to do :P

Hi all

think i have located where it is it looks like it is under the back seat i think i can access it from there "tell me if im wrong" however there looks like a black metal plate riveted over it can anyone advise if i need to remove this or if i actually need to drop the tank off.

yes thats where it is adam ,the plate should actually turn and come off,
underneath it you will see the top of the pump it is held in with a plastic
ring which unscrews but they are usually very tight. you put a blunt chisel
against the raised ridges to tap it around till loose, you can get a special
tool, but i used a large pair of mole grips the sort that will go around a oil
filter, with this off it takes quite a nack to wiggle the pump out , if you
struggle there is a way its a bit brutal but try getting it out first :)

Hi

Had a look can see the roung black cap under the metal cover that looks rivetted over it are you saying that the metal part rivetted over the top of the black cap just twist off too or do the rivets have to be drilled out.

The riveted metal plate is to stop you tampering with things underneath, just prise it of with a strong screw driver, remove the black plastic disk, under this you will see the pump undo the ring around the outside (normaly black but I have seen wight ones) and lift the pump out.
