Mine takes full 2 seconds.
(Please don't look at me in a wrong way  )
As time it seems very quick, but if you time it with a stopwatch...then its an eternity...

I don't know any car that starts that long...injection nor' carb... carb. maybe if the car hasn't been started for a year :P

If this question is stupid just tell me! :D

The most likely suspect is the glow plugs. Sounds like they need to be replaced. T

There is also a possibility that it could be the High Pressure pump not getting enough fuel at the start

:P just to be clear, i have a petrol engine :P

If i let the pump pump twice before i turn the key to the max then it starts in 1/2 second :)

Could the petrol flow back to the tank? does the pump have a non-return valve?

I guess it can't have as the pressure dissipates after a while. Hmm, pressure regulator, blocked filter, pump on it's way out...
