Range on a full tank of fuel (hdi engine)

Just wondering what you fellow oil burners are getting (mileage wise) out of a full tank of fuel?

My hdi 110 has just done 450 miles and the fuel gauge is bang on halfway, with another 470 miles left in it according to the fuel computer. Are these sorts of figures beliveable?

Its also doing 49mpg combined average, which i double checked when i last brimmed the tank - Manual calculations actually said 48mpg, but thats close enough for me!

Anyone else?

Matt.

Believe it or not I only ever brimmed my tank once in 3 years and the ££ bill at the counter was scary so I just used to slosh in £30.00 every week or two - made me feel better I suppose.

Based on a 15.85 gallon tank @ 48mpg you'll 'only' get 760 miles I think the second half of the tank dissapears a lot quicker than the first!

I do a mix of London traffic driving + motorways and the average is about 44.8 mpg according to the computer but around 46 mpg according to manual calculations (110).

The biggest average I had was 54mpg when I've done a long non-thrashing motorway run.

thats what i'd roughly worked out. I do approx 500 -550 miles a week, and feel phycologically happier knowing it aint quite a tankful of fuel - Even though the tank is comfortably bigger than my old Skoda Octavia tdi.

A proper true test of the economy will be in july when we're off to Spa-Francochamps in Belgium for a 2 day track day - we'll be in convoy with our mates who'll all be towing car trailers at 60mph, so the economy should go through the roof - I hope! lol

I'm still impressed with the economy TBH, for a big comfy saloon, nearly 50mpg on a daily basis is good in my book.

I tried rediculously hard once to do high mpg's and it would not go above 53 but others have reported 60 ish :?

I keep more quite nowadays about mpg though :(

Most ive had so far is 725 miles to £67 which was 49mpg.

the last 2300 ive averaged 47.9mpg

Was hoping for low 50's but can't seem to get it that high even trying.

Think ive got sticky rear calipers or handbrake tho.

I have the trip comp now but hadn't when i maxed a tank ( and i mean maxed it ) to 850 miles. Plenty of 60mph cruising from dublin to limerick. 70mpg kinda stuff. The 406 is so rewarding when it comes to fuel economy. My dads 80 litre tank  in his 607 always says about 500 miles left when he fills it. Kinda negates the purpose of a diesel.

So... do you guys have, like, massive tanks? I I reckon I get 50-odd mpg but 500 miles before I have to fill up...

I think all diesel 406's have 70 litre tanks. Which is VERY useful. My Accord was a 55L one, so had to fill up every 500 miles :?

I've squeezed 74l into mine, but someone said they'd managed 78.
(I chickened out with the gauge virtually on the red and --- miles remaining).
Mine's definetely thirstier than the 2.0 HDi's but i can get 700 miles to a tank, about 43/44 mpg - it can do better if driven gently, (trip computer had average 46mpg over 5500 miles when I bought it).

Cant recall the most i have sloshed into mine, apart from the night i collected it from wrexham, the fuel light was on with 30 miles left in the tank (according to the computer)

I remember it took £69.00 to brim the tank.... i stopped at £60 thinking it must be pouring out the bottom somehow!

The diesel was something like 96p per litre so thats about 71 - 72 litres!!!

I must say the range is useful, especially on long long trips!

That would be me, and that's 78 rounded down.

Maybe the specified 70l tank doesn't include the reserve tank or the chute leading down to the tank?

Size isn't everything

What reserve tank? At a guess, there's perhaps 3 litres in the filler pipe, fuel line, rail(s) and fuel filter. The rest's just going to be the tank being bigger than it says on the spec sheet

I'm probably going to put the usual of about 72 litres in when I fill up tonight. Still struggling with the D9; the light comes on later and the gauge still flinches when it's practically on fumes
