New Engine.

I was thinking about putting a new engine in my 406, I think it seems awfully tired after just 68,000, when I changed the spark plugs I noticed the #1 cylinder spark plug was covered in oil and the other had a light dusting. It's due a cambelt change and there is strange ticking on idle and comments from people is that a diesel?

So I was thinking about putting a XU10J4RS engine in it or another XU10J4RS but with 306 GTi 6 Inlet and Exhaust Manifold.

Want it running properly, without missing at idle and annoying problems.

Also light throttle the car seems responsive enough, but boot it foot to the floor and nothing :(

Plus it's having starting issues on a morning when the choke is on it will stall and the idle will bounce all over the place even after replacing the Idle Stepper Motor.

If I'm going for the refurbished/New engine I was wondered, I have everything else, 4x Electric Windows, Sunroof, Heated Electric Leather Seats and Alloys just missing one thing! The A/C which would be a blessing never had a car without it so far.

If I get a 406 Engine with A/C can I whack that Engine, Compressor in it quite easily, maybe even digital climate control.

I'm not buying another car spent too much time on this one with the interior swaps, stainless steel brakes linings, alloys etc.

Any help appriciated as always Thanks.

Probably coolant temperature sensor

Welly will probably know more, but I reckon to retro-fit a/c you'll need something along the lines of:
Compressor, condenser, evaporator, hear exchanger, pressure valve thingies, pipework, holes in the bulkhead, new controller, (possible) new heater housing, gas, new looms or if you're feeling brave lots of new wiring

To retro-fit climate control you'll also need:
CC unit, daylight sensor, temperature sensors, (likely) new overhead console, humidity sensor, LOTS of wiring.

Much cheaper and much easier to just get a new 406.

Hi,

Seems a bit drastic with such low miles. Maybe the oil on the spark plug is due to a leaky rocker top cover? The ticking might be due to a blowing exhaust manifold or cracked?

Yeh think you might be right, is it a valve stem cover I need to prevent the oil leaking onto the spark plugs?

Where do these engines normally leak from?

The coolant sensor wouldn't this mean the temperature guage wouldn't work? and the fans wouldn't kick in as they do?

How much roughly, where is it located on the XU10J4R I have?

Is fitting a new exhaust manifold an easy enough job, it does sound very exhausty when it's rough to be fair like something is blowing from under the drivers door but not the exhaust itself.

Is fitting a 306 GTI-6 inlet manifold advisable?

is fitting a 306 GTI-6 exhaust manifold advisable?

what sort of power would I get from them?

I was thinking maybe just the exhaust as it's not really noticable if at all from standard where the inlet manifold is, for insurance purpose I'm talking here :)

406s have multiple coolant temperature sensors, at least one for the ECU and one for the dash. They'll be located somewhere near the thermostat
