I am a newbie to the club and after some searching on google I have found this club which looks a mine of useful information, I am looking forward to getting info and also hope to share my info on the 406.
I have owned my 406 for over a year now and do all my own work on the car but recently I have had a problem with the front suspension that has been going on for a while now and can't seem to get to the bottom of it.
The car started making a creaking noise when turning the steering wheel to the left which gradually got worse i.e. would make the noise when going over speedbumps etc at the time I put it down to a wishbone bush, once I got the car jacked up I saw that the front spring had broke right at the top of the strut.
I bought 2 new springs and fitted them and replaced the anti-roll bar stbiliser links at the same time this cured the problem for a month and the noise came back so I bought a secondhand strut, complete with top mount and spring and fitted it to the drivers side this again cured the problem but only lasted a week.
The car is only making the noise like a rubbery type of creaking noise but only when you turn the steering wheel to the left it makes no noise when you turn it to the right, I have checked all the wishbone bushes and ball joints which seem to be fine no play etc.
Has anyone had similiar problems is it worth buying new top mounts and struts any help with this will be very much appreceaited as it is now driving me mad.
Cheers Chris
