random chattering

Hello its me again!
Ok,Ive had a noise on my car for quite some time now and although its not any worse its annoying
I stripped the back end out (seats, boot trim, parcel shelf, everything!) got an old man with a beard to drive it while I layed in the boot to listen.
I managed to pinpoint the noise to exactly the passenger side rear suspension topmount. Its making like a metal on metal chatter when going over rough roads/bumps.
Can anyone give me any advice how this can be overcome?
Id be very grateful.
TIA,Iain.

For best results: get the old man to shave

Has the bearded old man got a loose set of false teeth?

Beards aside, are you sure it's not the trailing arm bush? I've never heard of any trouble on here with rear top mounts tbh.

Thanks for the reply,Its definately the little metal plate with the bolt through it as i could cup my hand over it and it muffled the noise.Im just thinking whether I should go and try tighten the nut on it up?

Check out the condition of the rubber seat on top of the coil spring. When I was having the wheels aligned on mine I snuck under the car for a peek and the top rubbers are pretty badly perished, job for another day!
Also check the condition of the antirollbar bushes; I did mine when I was tracking down odd knocks and noises and they disintegrated when I unclamped them

Thanks
,I swapped the outsie spring top bush with the inner bush (they looked the same so i assumed it was ok) and still the same,.
I put it back together and im going to have a look at the underneath gubbins for worn bushes or maybe a loose bolt or something.
