hi,

im sure the exhaust on my d9 glx is blowing so im going to take a trip down to kwik fit as im after nothing fancy and i was wondering will a d9 executive exhaust go on my glx? mainly just after the chrome-y looking trim pipe

or is it just the same exhaust on all 2.0l 406's and the exec's just come with an 'embellisher' as some websites list it?

thanks

dan

NO!

For the love of God don't do that! Go to National Tyres, ATS, local independent garage, ANYWHERE but Kwik-Fit!!!!

from ATS is £90 for the midsection and £85 for the backbox, however if you want the chromey tailpeice........... £130 for the backbox!

incidently, whats the beef with kwik fit?

I once heard that you can't fit quicker than a Kwik-Fit fitter :supafrisk:

They're completely incompetent and took something like 5 attempts (the last few I had to arrange through the regional manager because of the branch fobbing me off) to get my last exhaust fit right. They use air-powered impact wrenches to do up wheel nuts WAY past the proper torque limit so if you're lucky you can't get them off and if you're unlucky you'll find them broken. They don't do jobs they think they can get away without doing like wheel balancing or alignment even if you take it in just for an alignment job... etc etc etc

I wouldn't trust them to put a valve cap on right without supervision.

They were going to replace the whole exhaust on my old Clio, and were gonna charge me in excess of £350 for the privilege... The problem was then fixed the next day for free by a kind chap - just a quick weld to fix a crack where the pipe met the back box. Kept me going for nearly a year before I traded the Clio in for money off the 406 back in November.

I've heard all kinds of horror stories, too - Kwik-Fitters raising up cars on the lifts, waiting for the customer to go away, then jumping up and hanging off an exhaust and yanking on it until it broke, then trying to claim "Yep, that's where your problem is, that'll be £x,xxx to fix"

Steer well clear...

Most of those aftermarket boxes are complete carp - I got an OE one from here for about £95 delivered - I know you've still got to fit it, but the place doing my MOT did it for £30

Not trying to suggest it's the cheapest way, but the original had lasted for nearly 7 years

Just got off the phone to my dad and he's recently had a new exhaust (against my advice) from a Kwik-Fit (different branch). It's been rattling and banging from the back since

Another branch of Kwik-Fit also put a new exhaust on my old Laguna, which wasn't fit right and promptly melted the rear bumper, for which they took no responsibility "it wasn't like that when it left here"

In short, avoid Kwik-Fit unless you're willing to stand next to them and make sure they do the work and do it right

When I went into Kwik-fit they pulled an 08 plate merc A class onto the lift and I herd a crunching sound (I was in the waighting room) as they took it up, at this point four of them gathered round to look at the damage underneath, they then just caried on fiting some tyres, Some time later (they where seting my tracking up and takeing ages) when the bloke came in to pay they said nothing and charged him FULL price, untill I told the fela to check underneath, he got free tyers and a promiss to have it repeared at the main dealer.

I agree with MJB, NEVER EVER trust a kwik-fit bodger.

I agree with all, never go to Kwik-fit, its like McDonalds with spanners!!

I worked with a chap who used to work at the Newquay depo, but left because of the imense pressure he was under. They have mamouth quotas to meet, so the unsuspecting customers end up with parts they do not need, or parts that they do need after the monkeys have been swinging on them! :!: :!:

They should be shut down!!

That's brilliant

It's true though, I suppose some of the big chains become a service provider following set routines and orders - who can imagine having the brake discs checked for correct thickness on their super-dooper brake disc thickness measuring'ometer and them coming over to you and saying "your discs are fine Sir, they'll see you ok for another 20,000 miles no problem" :|

I believe some of these places bully customers with the safety thing......Ooooh "brakes" it's not Safe etc etc etc
