problems with sri engine

Post by linukas »

hello everybody,
ive got 406 sri. The engine started to smoke... white smoke from exhaust and from engine bay ( i think from turbo), smels like oil burns ???. oil have been changed two weeks ago, after that i changed exhaust to powerflow 2.5 twin. So engine smokes for last five days, what problem could be here ? First car with turbo  plus the engine hardly breathes, i diconected the filter (witch is under drivers side wing) hose, after that engines works much better. Should i change that filter or it can be cleaned too ?.nearly forgot from a dump valve oil is going too.

Dan
thanks for reply. The car starts very easy, no problems, just smoking... I thought i have over filled too, but checked oil and is about three mm before max.
If im starting my car engine it doesnt smoke, but then it gets hoter it start to smoke. after 5 - 10 minutes it starts to smoke more and more and very strongly smels like oil is burning. I think i will chech the compresion next week and will be sure it engines fault or turbos. What the compresion must be of sri engine ? if engine is good and its turbos fault, its time for hybrid turbo

Worn sealing rings?

I suppose it's to early to tell if there's excessive oil consumption...

White smoke usually suggests head gasket :?

hi, got one of these cars my self, and just changed the turbo on it, and it had a burning smell too, but it turned out to be coolant.
check the wee right angled hose that goes into the turbo at the top. lives behind the turbo pipe and the charge pipe and is an awkward little bleep to get to
did u flush it when you changed the oil too, cos it sounds as tho the breather that sits on the rocker cover and goes to the turbo pipe may be clogged which might explain the oil coming back through the dump valve, other than that i agree with the white smoke pointing to head gasket too

You disconnected the air filter and now you've got oil being dumped from the turbo? Sounds like an obvious cause - you've been pulling in big lumps of crud which have damaged the turbo
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

i disconected ''wing filter'' just for few minutes, cause i saw car breathes more easilly... But after that i connected it again. And asked you about changing it ? Or it must be like what ? This evening i'm going to my mates garage and will check whats going on + will make some pictures
