Lucas pump overhaul

I would like to hear from people who have repaired their Lucas injection pumps on the 2.1TD. I have taken then solenoid and solenoid valves off the pump to re do the seals. On mine the stop solenoid which is the troublesome component, looks like it could never have worked, there is no spring at the back of the plunger and no seal at the front. Is this normal or could someone previous to me have pinched it for another.
