I am hoping any of you guys /gal's can help i have a 406 with the very obscure engine which is the TU spec this one has the EGR valve on the back of the head, i bought this car on a 51 plate but the reg date is 21/01/2002 whilst i ordered the timing belt as well as fan belt whilst awaiting these parts i did not even cover 70 miles since purchase and the belt snapped.
Yep caught out royally, can anyone tell me where i can get a used head with around 80 / 130k on it?
I have been unsuccessful so far and if not it's the car grave yard as another replacement engine will not respond to the ECU.
Please help as this car is too good to lay to rest.

I'd try breakers on a national scale, especially French specialists. Remember too that the engine may be in other Peugeot/Citroen models
The 3 more expensive options are:
1) A new head. Give us your VIN and we can tell you the part number and price
2) New engine+ECU. A lot of engines on ebay tend to come with ECUs and a load of periphery (harnesses, relay boxes, etc)
3) New 406

Hope you can help widen the net by telling me what other Peugeot / Citroen models have this engine my VIN number is VF38B6FZFxxxxxxxx.
Date of first reg is 21/01/2002 on a 51 plate.
Rapier is the trim level and as far as i am aware it is the EGR valve that seems to make the difference.
I was also thinking about new valves and slides as the head has not been "cooked" and due to this if i put a new head on a 120k bottom end where do the problems come next?
As i am aware once you mix and match heads and bottom ends you then incur other problems, is this the case in your opinion?

You don't want a new head. £1095 for the EW7J4
Other cars with the engine are the 306, 407, Citroen C5, and Citroen Xsara Picasso

Me thinks you could be a life saver, as i was not aware of all the models this engine was used in, i will keep you posted with how i get on with this, as i have said i feel this cruiser is to good for the bucket as i am the second owner from new it's minted but some thrifty person from Inverness ran this car for 120k without changing the belt, shame on them to be honest

Why are you looking for a new head?
If you only had a cambelt failure it's fairly certain that the head can be reconditioned. You may be lucky and only bent a few valves.
Do you have a local engine reconditioning place? If so, price up a recon job.

I did look at this option but due to the valves being longer all be it the same diameter etc, etc the valves are very expensive as they are an odd ball size (length) due to the fact you can always cut a bit of but not so easy to put a bit on, also it's needing all valves due to the fact if one spring breaks you replace the pair.?
I usually do, also i suppose everything comes down to cost and "where do you stop"
not 1 had the head with the EGR valve at the back of the head...
In my local area there was 17 406 Petrol's being broken I already have a credit note for a head i had picked up as i was assured it was the correct one, no cash back from the breakers as we all know....shower o shite that mob..

Well considering you were under the impression it's got a TU engine in it, which I don't think made it into anything bigger than a 306...

No worries there as they say age does not bring wisdom as old people can still stub their toe on a coffee table that has been in the same place for 15 years
I am only relaying information relayed to me from a parts guy who told my mechanic friend, in no way am i trying to appear "wise and learned" hence i came to this very site for help and advice.
