The wife got in the car tonight and the floor on her side was awash/soaking with water, I could not find anything that was/is leaking, so I was wondering if any of you Gentlemen have had similar soakings.

I really really hope this is not what happened to me with my 2001 xantia hdi but it could be the dreaded heater matrix leaking, check your water level or see what colour the water is, if it smells of anti-freeze its your matrix......please don't let it be this....its a ruddy nightmare job !!!!!

Could also be leaky door sills or the ever popular leaking seal on a rear light cluster

Can you answer the following:
1) Was it raining over there?
2) Which corner of the car is lowest when it was parked, or do you park somewhere flat?
3) Saloon, estate or coupe?
4) Is there any dampness around the courtesy light or the ultrasonic alarm sensors?
5) Does your spare wheel well resemble a swimming pool?
6) Is there a sloshing sound when you drive?
7) Can you hear/feel water in any of the doors?
How high's the water level in the coolant reservoir?

I have had 2 406's now and both have leaked from different areas!!

My D8 LX estate was like a swimming pool on the passanger side, traced the leak to a failed seal under the polen filter housing in the engine bay - years of crud and crap had built up and rotted the foam seal and water was getting straight in, down the bulkhead and under the passanger carpet - dont forget the water will then travel under the front seat and end up in the rear footwell also!

My d9 saloon has leaked through the rear lamp cluster seal and filled the spare wheel well up with water, BUT none made its way into the cabin!

Mine leaks very well random and i dont know how but here it is..

ALL 4 DOOR SEALS!!

Dont know why and dont know how but as soon as you close the door the water goes in straight out the bottom of the seal somehow its leaking down so everytime its got pressusre on the bottom of the seal water comes out and when its raining well should get my swimming trunks on! Currently still trying to fix this problem!

Yeah, that's a common cause of water ingress, Dai.

I had water leaking in the rear of my 406, it was coming through the door seal...

I fixed it by removing the rubber door seal and tapping the metal rib, the one that the door seal fits onto around the door opening, outwards, then refitted the seal....this makes the door seal sit tighter against the door.

The D8 had an occasional bit of trouble with the rear locks, you know the one where the door doesn't always unlock when the deadlocks are used? Brilliant in the rain when you're holding a baby under your arm . Anyhow when I investigated it a bit futher it turns out that it must have been a persisting problem, and that Edward had been inside all the doors, but only the front passenger one leaked. Half a roll of duck tape later.....

My coupe's my first 406 that hasn't had water ingress issues... yet...

Mine did that - Came out one morning to find a nice puddle in the footwell. Was summer too - so in the morning, the car was fogging up like crazy due to the humidity!

Cheap and easy fix - just a matter of gluing the skin back on
