Got the dreaded Ani-polution fault

So a while ago i got an anti pollution warning - my local garage reset it (but didn't have the reader) and it went away.

It came back with a vengeance a week or so ago and its taken the fuel gauge with it. The fuel gauge now commonly reads incorrectly, sometimes telling me i have 3/4 fuel when i have almost none. At other times it reads correctly. So im having to keep note of my millage and average fuel consumption :/

I managed to get an appointment at a garage with a reader and guess what, that morning the fault disappeared and the garage found no logs in the system. It came back 2 days later and has been there every since and the fuel gauge is still reading wrong.

At no point has the car been in limp-home mode

This all seemed to start when i fitted the sub woofer and while connecting the power to the battery a spark jumped to these pipes >

Ive heard they are fuel injection pipes and power steering pipes - so someone is wrong, but if they are fuel related its almost to big a coincidence.

I know i havn't explained this well at all [im in a rush] but please feel free to ask me more questions - can anyone work out what the hell is going on with my pug!

The black metal pipes coming out of the silver metal block? They're brake pipes coming out of the ABS thingy.

Having the battery live arcing to ground through stuff that's connected to the ECU is very, VERY bad. The only thing I can suggest would be to disconnect the battery for 20 mins and hope the problem goes away

Done that before :( It reset the system but then the fault just came back

Im convinced its a fuel/gauge problem of some sort

I had an erratic fuel guage on my 2.1TD which I cured by removing the main instrument cluster and reseating the 2 multiplug connectors there. The gauge used to go mental during hot weather and I finally sussed it was a poor connection on the plug behind the dash...
Worth a check if the problem has coincided with the recent warm weather we have had recently

Ok I will check that, thanks.

But I still have suspicions its to do with the engine mamagment prob. Does the computer control the guage or is it a direct sensor from the float?

And its not really 'eratic' it stays stable and dosnt move - it just moves drasically in the wrong direction over night somtimes :/
