How do you reset the engine if it *may be* stuck in limp mode and hasn't been reset? Mine is a 2 litre petrol EW engine 1999 V reg.

I've always been under the impression that limp-home is a non-latched condition on 406s, meaning that it'll exit the mode as soon as the condition which caused the limp-home is cleared... Certainly there's a few situations such as low coolant that behave that way
If you're sure the causing condition has cleared, then you could try an ECU reset, else as it's a '99 it'll be a case of a visit to a dealer, then bend over...

Thanks for that. However, how do I reset the ECU? Is it simply disconnecting the battery for a few hours or something more exotic?

I was never really too sure what 406's have limp mode and what dont. Does my 2000 90 HDi L model (Baron Spec) have it?

When my old Berlingo HDi went into limp mode all I did was remove the battery and turn the ignition on.
