Hi all
Mot time again and my car failed but wasnt to bad needed 2 rear springs which i got quite cheap of flea bay not a problem to fit.
It also failed on the Main Brake Pipes.
Nearside (main) brake pipe excessively corroded
Offside (main) brake pipe excessively corroded
Now the garage that done the MOT said that repairs would cost £365 to repair ashaving the springs done by myself they said the brakes would cost £165 to repair.
I have phoned my local car shop and they said theye can make the pipes up for me £2 for the 1st foot then 75p per foot after which is more like it.
All i need is the lengh and also what ends goes on.
Without taking these off first i wouldnt know.i would rather keep them on till i get the replacements.
So can anyone tell me the length of the brakepipes and what ends are needed for a 406 saloon on a V reg its also the 2.0 diesel.
Any help with this would be great also save me a packet

That's a ridiculous amount. Piping's not expensive and the tool to bend the stuff ain't that dear.
Find a new garage!

I remember getting a pack of copper pipping for another car - not sure how much was in there (maybe 5 metres) but it wasnt all that expensive ... maybe 20 quid at tops. A pipe flaring kit can be picked up from a motor factors for not much more. They are trying to take the arm out of you.

If I've got the right ones, (pair of brake pipes from abs modulator to unions near rear axle), the set is £29.12 from Peugeot.
(0000488834 BRAKE HOSE) this is for a D9, Bosch servo, rear drums, with abs - there are several versions.
Try the dealers, check it out on ServceBox, or if you prefer, pm your VIN no. & I'll look it up.....

Before you have a go at the garage, consider how long the job can take, sometimes there are all sorts of stuff in the way of fitting the pipes...like fuel tanks and stuff.
I am in the process of replacing both the front to rear pipes on my Nissan Terrano, took me ages to remove the old pipes....loads of brackets and clips holding them on and rusted in ends, fitting the new ones will be a pain.
If I was charging out the job, I would want about £120 for the labour.
The best way to measure the old pipes is with a piece of string.
Standard metric ends are fitted.
