EXPLODING inlet manifold

Jumped into my car last Friday morning, 406 GLX 2ltr petrol estate, turned the key and BANG!
Got out and found a load of shattered black plastic under the front of the car. Had to call a mate to come pick me up to get to work, racking my brains all day thinking what if could be.
Finished early, got a lift home and started to assess the fault. Low and behold the plastic inlet manifold had exploded! My mate happened to have all the star bits and hex keys I now needed to get the manifold off at home.
While he left me to go get them I did some research on tintanet and found http://www.peugeot206cc.co.uk - peugeot 206cc owners club/forum page titled: Explosive Inlet Manifolds. A very enlightening read.
Manifold off, I called GSF (http://www.gsfcarparts.com) the next morning for a replacement. Turns out they don't deal with them, suggested secondhand although, they thought it rare to find one on it's own, has secondhand dealers tend to keep them with a removed engine as a unit. Only other option that came to mind was
.............the dreaded Main Dealer! DUN DUN DERRRR!
They didn't have it in stock and had to order it. I told the guy at the parts dept on the other end of the phone that I read that Peugoet knew about this exploding plastic manifold problem and apparently had done a product recall, the new ones being fitted with a valve to prevent vapour build up.
He asked for the last 8 digits of my vin number and said there was no product recall outstanding on that vehicle.
The replacement part is, wait for it................................. £244.01 inc VAT but it comes with all the seals. Well woopi doo! It would take half a week to get here and because of the value of the new part it had to be payment up front.
What a way to start the weekend and it wasn't even 10 O'clock yet.
New Manifold arrived at the dealers today, only found out through calling them, having not heard anything all day... Thanks for the phone call guy.
Turns out no recall on that part for my car so no financial recompence, but Peugeot certainly did know about the Exploding inlet manifold problem alright and yes, they had fitted a release valve to the manifold chamber to let out the fuel vapour when the ECU over maps the engine, which opens the inlet valve while firing and ignites the fuel vapour in the plastic manifold (BANG!)...
...So it shouldn't explode any more. They have also blanked off the inlet hole on the manifold for the ERG pipe and moved it's possition to the top and front by the throttle butterfly. Now I have to change the pipe connection too.
R £244 lighter and the bloody thing wasn't even gift wrapped.
