406 2.1TD 1996 starts and cuts out immediately

I have a 1996 406 2.1 td. I drove to the shop, switched engine off and when I returned to the car 5 minutes later it fired up and cut out immediately. I keep trying and it will only fire for approx 1 second and cut out again.
Does anybody have any ideas?
P.S.
I have tested the fuel pressure up to the injector pump and that is ok.

A few things to try....
Are you sure you havent got any air getting in to the fuel system?
Or perhaps there is water that needs draining from the fuel filter housing?
Check that the fuel filter cover is screwed down tight and seated correctly?
Prime it by hand as per the haynes book of lies and see if it runs for longer?

Hi. Thanks for the info. Tried all of that and still the same. Got auto electrician to look at it and found the engine ECU had locked out. Sent the ECU away to be unlocked. Now all ok.
