Faulty Fuel Guage

Post by Zippokovich »

As i found out when my car suddenly stopped - my fuel gauge is faulty.

I've not tracked it properly, but i think it tends to read right sometimes and wrong others. When its reading wrong it tends to read 1/4 1/2 or 3/4

I had an intermittent antipollution fault for a month or so that i suspected was causing it to read wrong, but that disappeared 3 weeks back and i thought it was only reading wrong during the antipol warning. I never got a code reading im afraid and its gone now - or for the moment anyway.

So any ideas? I considered replacing the float, but then found out that is part of the pumping system and i would need to replace the whole 1£50 part.

My fuel gauge sometimes sticks. I always reset my trip mileage and watch that rather than trust the gauge.

Mine sticks when i visit the mother in law. Thats the only time its parked facing downhill, with the driverside lower than the passanger side. If there is less than half a tank in, it always sticks at 3/4!! Most annoying, however a good excuse to visit her less i suppose !!

The only way to then "unstick" it is to fill the tank full, its then ok.

Gah!! Bluddy thing, it's done it again - it's done the usual run down to empty and this morning I was getting a low fuel warning, range said 60kms left, so I got some money out. Got in it this evening to get diesel and then go shopping and suddenly I've got half a tank with 600kms left

Mine does this but seems to read correctly eg if it shows half full it will bounce upwards and back to half full. if 3 quarters full it will bounce up to full and back down to 3 quarter s full .In any case I make sure tank is half full on the guage and never let it go below that
