2000 v reg 406 1.8 16 v clutch change

hi guys just bought my first 406 from my local auctions always wanted a 406 so on the way home noticed the clutch is slipping and dont think there is much life left in as u can realese the clutch fully in first gear with the handbrake on and it jus drops the back end down and doesnt even stall are the clutches in these easy to change i have done a fair few clutches in my time but never to a peugeot any tips special tools etc needed also was shocked to find out a car of this age still with a clutch cable rather than hydraulic operated is this right for the age car ? any help,tips appreciated cheers kev

It took me three days to do the clutch on this engine. I had never done one before and would have done it in 2 easily, but had trouble getting the gear box back in. It wasn't a hard job as in lots of fiddly bits, more a case of lots of tight seized bits and heavy lumps of metal to remove.
If you have done them before then it should be relatively easy.

It's probably why it was down the auction to be honest. Any calling around for quotes would have had the previous owner running a mile (it books as an 8 hour job if I remember) so you'd be looking at £400.00/500.00
If you can do it with the help of another then you'd end up with a bargain I suspect. The clutch parts are about £100.00 I think (try to get an LUK one from Eurocraparts or similar).
Oh an a shiney new cable wouldn't go a miss

I've got a reciept for the clutch being replaced on my 406, and it cost £350 all in, which isnt to bad tbh.. I suggest that you shop round mate, i'm sure you will find a place who will replace it for a good price..

thats it done started at 7.30am today its now 14.15 so roughly 7 hours off and on got a clutch kit from my local motor factors for 101 quid so all aint to bad just need to change the anti roll bar links again not to expensive either and an easy job so thanks guys for all ur help

had a mate there to help pass tools and with liftin etc but glad its done just the other problem to get sorted now lol
