406 Service Costs reasonable?
Our pug is a W reg 406 2.0 HDi with 144k on it and we have no history with it.
So, we're putting her into Citrotec in Bristol for some work just to make sure everything is going to last.
£350 Timing Belt
£50 Water Pump
£122 Crankshaft Pulley
= £522
2 days wrk
We've also mentioned the badly reading fuel gauge (Ie, when brimmed it shows no fuel for first 100 mile and then starts to read full, but drops to empty when corning or braking)
Seem reasonable?

Re: 406 Service Costs reasonable?
Hi there Bruce , taking into account the price of genuine parts i think
they are charging you around £290 labour for a 4 hour job less the old
vat of course . If you look on ebay you may find you can make quite a saving
on the parts , i did .

Re: 406 Service Costs reasonable?
To give you an idea I have a X reg 2.0 hdi 144 K (spooky ..)
I had my local garage (merc / renault specialist but good old fashioned mechanics .. if you put fuel in we can fix it type place ) do my timing belt kit plus a full sevice .. fuel filter, air filter, oil filter, oil , good check over , etc ... £320 or so all in back in Feb ..
They use non pug oil filters, etc .. good semi synth oil (magnatec i think) ...pug timing kit not just belt !
If you can find a good small garage its definitely the way forward in my opinion ...
Iain
ps did i mention loan car at no charge ??

It's a pity you don't live a little closer to Lancashire, Bruce, I could have saved you quite a bit on that price.
Re: 406 Service Costs reasonable?
Damn it.
Well, im happy, even if its a bit steep, atleast these failure points would of been dealt with and should mean many more happy miles

Re: 406 Service Costs reasonable?
I think that the price isn't broken-down evenly so it's made the cambelt look high (this is where they've put all the labour I think).
My crank-pulley job alone was £220.00 I think (with a new surpentine belt) as the pulley itself was about £120.00 to purchase from Peugeot's.
You've definately done the right thing though having these bits done. Did they renew the coolant? it should be nice and clean on the HDi.

Re: 406 Service Costs reasonable?
I will get it back tomorrow as they are going to investigate the fuel gauge problem (Been told on here its probably the pump/float) so will see what they say.
Yeh the costs are not broken down fully, its just the quote as it came in over the phone etc.
I will see tomorrow what they have done on the invoice.
Better to be safe then sorry anyway

The crank pulleys are on special offer at the moment

Re: 406 Service Costs reasonable?
Update!
The car is STILL at Citrotech!
So far its had, timing belt, crank shaft pulley & a new water pump. They finished this on Tuesday 3pm after having the car all day monday!
They rang yesterday to ask what the problem was with the fuel gauge.. so I explained..
So I wont be getting it back till Thursday evening now and they probably wont identify the fuel pump!
Specialists? Specialists at going slow
