Whining and clicking noise

Hi all,
I've got a bit of whining possibly from the gearbox. Driving along, press the clutch in and it stops. Release it and the whining comes back.... It's not really loud, but you can hear it at low speeds. Could changing the gearbox oil help? It has done a fair few miles so I don't expect it to be perfect
Also there is a valve type thing on the drivers side inner wing, Has a small black pipe going in and out of it and a electrical connector. Mine clicks sometimes, what is this for?

Sounds familiar... Mine was fixed by a change of gearbox oil with some Molysomething added (pinky-purple and white tube from halfords)

Not 100% on this, but I think it's related to the fuel tank pressure release system. With a 70+ litre tank the car needs to let air into it otherwise a vacuum builds up causing the fuel pump grief

I think it does need the oil replacing, engaging gears is a bit notcy sometimes...
Is this the stuff?
Ah ok, aslong as its nothing that requires fettling
Thanks,

Give that a try and if that doesn't stop the whining then it may be the clutch release bearing. Fingers crossed though!

Don't think it's the bearing, that would do it all the time even when stationary until the clutch is pressed. I'll change the oil and let you know the outcome......

The clutch bearing would only be noisy when the clutch is pressed, the clutch bearing does not turn until the clutch is pressed.
The gearbox first motion shaft bearings are turning on tickover, but will stop when the clutch is pressed, hence the noise disappearing when the clutch is pressed.
