Just done a 205 mile trip and come off the motorway and put it into 3rd at about 50mph and was greated with a vibration/grinding of something under the car which is also audible...
Anytime you have say.. 1500+rpms and come off the throttle so the car "lurches" forward it will do it.
I suspect the engine mount of gearbox mount has finally given up... its ok on throttle though?
I do get a lot of vibration and shaking in reverse too...
HELP as we're 205 mile from home (In East Yorkshire, just outside Hull) and probably no garages are gunna be open much...

We're? Cool, this sort of thing is far worse when you're on your tod (Avenger tailshaft bearing went on me while I was oop north

)
I suppose the best you can do is make sure it's safe (i.e. the engine's not about to fall out) and drive it carefully home. Could just be the exhaust...

Popped into a local garage as it got worse this morning.
Verdict?
a PEUGEOT/CITROEN SPECIALIST whom had done the cambelt change had NOT DONE UP THE ENGINE MOUNT BOLTS CORRECTLY.
Thus, over the last 2 weeks the engine was dropping lower and lower on the mount and with the motorway drive it had loosened more so withnengine braking or enaggeing reverse it was low enough the SUMP WAS HITTING THE SUBFRAME!
£20 and garage had found the problem, tighened the bolts and nice smooth Pug again...
Peugeot Specialist....?Hmmm? AND they never fixed the fuel gauge problem (Probably the float in tank but they farted about with some wiring said it was fixed) fact was it said 1 notch under half a tank and took 58 litres to fill it up...?Hmmm.

Bloody hell! Sounds like you're lucky the engine didn't fall out!
Care to name and shame the "specialist" in question?

Holy sh1t! That's a disgrace!
You'd better check around the flexible joint on the front section of the exhaust for any leaks!
