Hi, Not posted for a while cause had no problems with my 406 that is until the last few days (especially tonight). Doing 70mph with the cruise control set and all of a sudden the cruise control cut out (did not touch the break or clutch pedal) i now cannot get it to come back on. It did the same thing a few days ago but the next time i went in the car everything was back working ok. Is there any common fault i should look for tomorrow , any advice or help would be very much appreciated...Regards Colin

The 406 is a 2002 executive saloon.

1. Check the fuse (don't ask me which one...)
2. Try pulling the clutch and brake pedals up with your foot

Mine has done something similar a few times and always been OK the next day
I've yet to find the problem, but mine usually refuses to turn on, never had it drop out.
Made my mind up to check the pedal swithces last time, but it started working before I got the chance.

A mate once had a problem with his cruise not working in the dark, turned out he had a dodgy stop/tail bulb that was creating a link between the two circuits, so when the sidelights were on the car thought the brakes were on and refused to engage the cruise. I only realised the problem when he was coming to pick me up one day, approaching where I was standing, he braked and the front sidelights came on.... :? :o :) New rear bulb, cruise fixed! 8)

Well i sprayed both pedal switches with switch cleaner and managed to spray inside the cruise control switch and went on a 25 mile journey to the hospital to see my mother last night...no problems at all..worked 100%....However on my return journey i set of then the auto lights came on and the cruise control once again dropped out. So what i did next was to switch my auto lights feature off ( just incase there is a problem with the auto lights affecting the cruise ) and tried just normal lighting and again the cruise control would not work...so Dai's reply might be very close to the problem..i will check and replace any bulbs today and let you know the results later...Cheers Colin

SORTED !!!! :D Found the fault to be when i put my lights on the high level brake light also came on.The brake lights were all working as they should when the lights were off but the high level staying on when lights are on.In the end and it took about 1 hour traced fault to my towbar socket, simply one of the female pins had pushed in too far and was making the high level brake light operate with the lights, i managed to pull the pin out to where it should be and it was sorted.....Cheers for all your help Regards Colin

Well done Colin 8) (& thanks too to Dai).

I shudder to think how much that might have cost if you'd let Pernod's finest loose on it!

Thinks, I've got a towbar too......
