The manual recommends a 10w/40 semi synthetic. This grade (from a good make like Castrol or whatever) will be just the job.

I always used Fuchs/Silkolene XTR 10w/40 semi syn (lovely stuff).

My manual for the hdi's says 5/40 fully sythentic or 10/40 semi!

Id go for a good quality 10/40 semi sythetic and jobs a good un. In fact thats what ive done and reduced the intervals from 12k down to 10k.

Fully synthetic is ok as long as the engine has always run on it, it can shift waxy deposits in the oil ways when it gets really hot and you don't want that so if in any doubt use semi-syn.

I use 10/40 s/syn on my hdi 110,changed every 10k.I used to use 5/40 fully syn,but its nearly twice the price of 10/40.
5 ltrs of 10/40 cost me £18 at ECParts,car lube i think.
