W reg HDi 406 none runner

Got this a cheap run about (ex taxi). It has been very well maintained and everything worked perfectly untill yesterday 
It started no probs in the morning, then dinner time it just to say started (starter motor was very slow) then it wouldn't start at all no clicking or nowt! Hopefully it's just a dead starter, does that sound right?
Anyone had to change 1 recently? are they much bother to do? thanks in advance, Adam.
