Hi all, can someone please tell me how to change the throtle cable.
The one thats on there is pretty slack the thick rubber end bit is all the way out off the casing thing.sorry don't know what the proper names for them are
I,ve had a look and followed it back to the body were it goes in under the wiper motor but were do i go from there :?: do i have to pull the dash off :?: (as you can tell i'm a novice) but i like to have a go at things my self.
Is there a guide or some pics on here i've done a serch but can't find anything.

I would be grateful for any advice.
Cheers

HI,

The tell tale signs are a stiff or lazy throttle on a 1.9 diesel and a slow decrease in rpm on the overrun.
If its a 1.9d you can send a new inner cable down the outer from the pedal end.
The old cable is easy to remove at the pedal end.
This means you dont have to remove the outer cable.
These inner cables usually tend to only fray at the 'box' section which clips onto the air filter housing.
This area can be shortened and dispensed with by cutting the cable inner & outer short and effectively bypassing the box section. A squirt of WD40 down the cable before refitting works wonders.
The 'sheath' which is on the injection pump allows a good degree of adjustment from whichto take up the slack.
I've done this bodge on two D8s successfully and done many miles with no problems.
I'll try and get a photo of this when I revisit my old '96 d8 taxi one day which incidentally sailed through its MOT on Friday!

Hope this helps

Tony
