A/C compressor rattling clutch

The clutch on my 98 2.1td Delphi AC compressor is rattling at certain rpm's and its a really annoying noise and makes the car sound really poorly although its not!

When the AC is on the clutch seems to engage (spin) and then dissengage (stop spinning) again.

Well i dont think its actually disengaging as it would with a loss of power to the magnet its more like its slipping.

The rattle is the back face of the clutch (that you can see when looking at the compressor) knocking against the face of the pully that the belt runs on.

It appears to me that the springs that hold the clutch in the disengaged position are weak.

Can these things be rebuilt or is it a replacement whole compressor?

Don't know the answer, but I may be able to help you with a cheap compressor as I picked one up & didn't need it.

pm me if interested

I believe there is a gap on the clutch that has to be set with a feeler
gauge and if this widens over time it can cause a rattle , i will check
if it was in HBL that i read this . :!:

but then knowing me it could just have easily been in "Jason in fairyland "
but i digress
