Does anyone know how easy it is to put a 2.0 HDi (110) engine into a 2.0 petrol car? Whats involved, are the looms the same and is it worth it?

Thanks
Ant

its alot of work. u have to swap almost every thing over.

engine
gearbox
fuel lines
maybe the fuel tank
loom
clocks
probably even the suspension to cope with the extra weight of the diesel lump
be alot easier having a diesel car to start off with, like an old dt then putting a hdi engine in that

You'd have "fun" if you're thinking of putting a HDi into a D8  Don't try it!

As with anything, it's possible (and a lot easier if you don't cross the D8/D9 boundary, else you'll have to re-wire the entire car!), but given how you could get a HDi110 for about £6-800, I wouldn't bother unless you're thinking of tearing up another coupe or just want to do it for fun, in which case you'll want pretty much everything under the bonnet minus the brake/clutch hydraulics and driveshafts. Engine w/box, loom, ecu, relay box, mounts, radiator, intercooler, hoses, exhaust, fusebox, fan shroud, accelerator cable, battery (really!)...

EDIT: Fuel system too!

Thanks for the replies. Now another question  ........... is it possible to put a 2.0 HDI 110 engine into a HDI 2.0 90 car (both D9s)?

As far as I know, the 90bhp version is basically the same engine but without the intercooler. Slap that in and remap and you'll have an engine better than a standard 110

has anyone done this, if so what gains did you get and how would it compare to a remapped 110?

A non-intercooled 90bhp can be remapped to something near 120bhp. A remapped 110 will get you around 140bhp.

Not sure what power gains can be had from 90bhp + remap + IC
