Hi, My 2002 executive hdi 110bhp starting has become sluggish, by that i mean it takes 5-6 spins of the starter motor and sometimes more before the engine fires up. I have listened to the fuel pump and it sounds perfect and i know the battery is ok as i fitted a new one a couple of months ago also i fitted 4 new glow plugs when i serviced it in May. So could it be a dodgy starter motor, maybe worn bushes and would that effect the starting this way or maybe someone else has other ideas....Cheers Colin
Just to add the car has 160k on the clock has been serviced and once started it runs like a dream.

I remember someone not too long ago had an issue with a non-return valve failing, so when they shut off the ignition, the fuel would slink back through the pipes and into the fuel tank... Maybe your problem?
