NEW FUEL FILTER

Hi

406 hdi 110 went in garage yesterday to have new fuel filter fitted(bosch type). Got home later on and noticed the engine management light came on and it wasn't pulling as well which seemed a bit of a coincidence? Also noticed a strong diesel smell. Popped the bonnet up and cleaned the filter housing with some brake cleaner and a cloth as i could see a few splashs of diesel on the housing. That seems to have done the trick as when the heater blower was on i could smell a bit of diesel inside its gone now.....

Drove car for about 30mins today like this and then the light suddenly went out thereby saving me another trip to garage and probably £50 to diagnose & clear fault. Thinking maybe the mechanic knocked something when he changed that filter. Not come back on since and been driving car for about 1.5 hours today and seems fine. Luckily i haven't paid the bill yet garage said i can pay bill at the end of the week! Anyone else had this happen??

Thanks Marco

Could possibly be air in the fuel system which has now purged through. Hopefully there isn't a problem with the seal on the housing which is allowing air to get sucked in (and a bit of diesel to leak out)

As others have said before, many people recommend changing the whole fuel filter housing, not just the element as it massively reduces the risk of particles making their way through to the high pressure pump and injectors. If you buy the whole filter housing it includes the filter element already fitted and changing the whole lot only takes 5 minutes and you can easily do it yourself thereby saving on garage bills.
