Bought the hdi 110 (saloon) couple of months ago and really like it. Bought it in balckpool and drove it all the way back to bristol, the majority of which i sat at a speed somewhere above what i was suppsoed to! I then drove some town miles and the pug impressed me by easily being able to get near 700 miles from a tank. I was happy to say the least as i had made no effort what so ever to drive economically.

Since then i have serviced the car including, fuel filter, air filter, oil filter, new oil, cleaned the egr valve and pipe, scraped as much oily gunk out of the inlet manifold whilst i had the egr valve off but without removing the inlet manifold and chucked some wynns in the fuel tank.

I have been driving almost purely constant stop start town driving in bristol and the car often has only just warmed up by the time i have reached my destination. I hate this sort of driving but it has got to be done at the moment im afraid but at the same time i really dont like the mog figures its giving me. I have tested the mpg without brim to brim etc (not using the on board computer) and im only gettting 30mpg whilst trying to drive economically! Is this all i can expect???? anybody else have the same experience???

I must admit that from searching around on here loads i have not yet tested whether the hand brake is dragging etc but other than that i cant see why the mpg should be so low!!?

The car has only done 44,000 miles (this can be verified), oh and i have checked the MAF sensor too and it looks clean as a whistle!

Im also running on supermarket fuel not shell or anything else etc, i dont know whether it would make much of a difference diesel wise and think its unlikely to help me get another 5+ mpg!!!!

Is 30mpg for this sort of driving normal and am i just dreaming??

On the two PSA engines I've experimented with at length (2.0 petrol turbo and 3.0V6), the 2.0T gave me the best value for money on BP standard and the V6 gives me best value on Shell Optimax (707 motorway miles on a tank!), with BP Ultimate coming a close runner up. Asda's standard petrol caused an "every day without fail" 34.5mpg on BP standard to drop to something like 28mpg in the 2.0T

I suspect the diesel situation will be similar, albeit not as pronounced

Im getting 35-37mpg on my commute (2.1 Miles each way - shoot me I know... I should cycle lol)

Mine has 129k on it and I have changed what you have apart from the egr and gunk inlet?

Mine is faily free moving but its 30-40mph limit and last half mile is pure stop start (Around Aztec West, you know it?)

How are your tyre pressures?

I do drive steady though as the engine doesnt reach operating temp and I do tend to coast down to round abouts etc to save braking/accelerating

Unfortunatly (LoL) Im only filling up ONCE a month (Doing about 300 miles a month, town driving) unlike my previous 2.3 Turbo I was getting like 19-21mpg using £20 a week!?!

My first fill up was 28/09/2009 and I put in 37.xx Litres / £40 worth. Gave me half a talk.

Averaging 19mph over the 321 miles I got spread sheet 38.x MPG and the trip said 36.8mpg

Since its getting colder now we're all probably demisting and using the rear heated screen which all zap mpg. So im expecting this month for it to drop 2-3mpg over the next 3-4 months compared the Sept/Nov period.

The 110 does use more fuel because it has more power than the 90 so it depends really on how your driving.

Im no expert but I do try and drive for my MPG as much as possible on my commute but somtimes I do drive 'normal'

On paper maybe, but due to less effort required to move the car, economy is normally better in the 110

Yeah aztec west can be a right bugger at rush hour times! Im a final year building surveying student at UWE bristol and have a house just off filton avenue, in between filton avenue and gloucster road and the horfield leisure centre. My normal weekly driving currently (and unfortunately!) consist of 1-2 mile trips to uni, 1 and a bit mile trips to the gf's house, driving into town ( 2+ miles?!?) 3 mile trip to cribbs causeway now and again and a once a week drive to portbury and back for a partime job. Between me and the uni there is 4 sets of traffic lights and between me and my gf's ( going via gloucester road) there is 5+ sets of lights and numerour junctions in the just over a mile journey!

Maybe its just the "crap town traffic driving" that im doing??

Last night drove down to ottery st mary in devon and back with 4 people (thats including myself) in it around 75-80 there and 90 plus on way back (m5 was completely and utterly empty at 2:30 in morning!) and it managed to average 39mpg (brim to brim test not computer) on a 185 mile trip. I thought this was reasonable with 4 up at those speeds. What do you guys think??

As for your previous comments, yeap i regularly check my tyre pressures and they are all at 35psi. Is this correct though as i didnt have a handbook when i got the car and i had to look around on the internet for the info??

Also yes, i think ill give running on shell a go as opposed to asda/tesco fuel just to see if there is much of a difference!

On different note, once i had the wheel balancing on the car sorted yesterday, cruising the 185 miles last night was completely effortless and i was very impressed with how smooth, quiet and planted the car felt the whole way down, my friends were very impressed!
