I have jammed a 2p piece into the air intake distributor with some copper gasket, the EGR pipe then helps to keep in in it's place. I have seen a small improvement from this, a flat spot between 3500 and 4000 (i think) disappeared. You could also make a metal plate and fit it between the exhaust mainfold and the EGR valve, I went for the easier option. Why are you doing this? Is there a problem or like me you just want a bit more performance. You can also check to see if the EGR valve is working mechanically by removing the pipe from the air intake and squeezing the diaphragm with the engine running, when you do this exhaust smoke comes out of the pipe, I have little hands so I can just about manage this.

im doing this as the egr system is crap and all it dose is fill the inlet manifold up with gunk,
ive seen inlet manifolds with hardly enough room to roll a marble down as the egr has blocked it up so much.
i am swaping a engine in a friends 2.1 so ill just remove the whole thing and weld up the manifolds on that one but for mine i just wanted to unplug it like you can on a 306, can it be unpluged on the 406?
thanks

Remove the upper inlet maifold (black plastic bit on top of engine), you will have to relese the metal pipe that comes up from the back of the engine (this is the pipe from the egr to the inlet) by manipulateing the clip off (slide a small screw driver in where it farsens together), be caerfull as you will need to refit it.
Once you have the maifold off, ram a 10 pence pice inside (use a 3/8th exstention bar and a hammer for this) and refit the manifold, if you're cearfull you can re-use the clip if you position it and then use pliers or side cutters clip it up.
If you do damage the clip you can get another on from Peugeot.
Job done, no running problems and no engine light

i did that on a spare manifold i have and it poked all the way through and out the other side.
mayby need a 2p instead of a 10p.
or ill just weld the inlet up to as it has a metal ring round that bit.
so i take it if i unplug it i get a warning light coming on then?

A 10p was a nice snug fit in mine.
I wouldn't weld it up as the heat will damage the maifold.
I don't know about the warning light, I just blocked mine as if the EGR valve it's self is leaking then you will not stop it by unpluging it.

My EGR valve didn't have a pip on it, I don't know if it had one when I bought the engine or I broke it off whilst wrestling to get it in. So I've never been able to connect a pipe to it, never had a light on for that.

EGR is the work of the devil, this is what it did to my inlet...
Swapped it out for one from an earlier xantia model that didn't have the egr crap.
