Just wondering if anybody has any suggestions for me. Ive fitted an aftermarket air intake. As you can see from the picture below, ive removed the upper casing from the old air filter to put the new (bright blue) one on, however theres nothing to hold it in place, and it wobbles and rattles a bit. At the moment im using some wiring to keep it tight but its not ideal. Anybody got any suggestions?

You can buy sone 'Ladder strap' from these HVAC/ducting suppliers- it's a flat steel strap, bendable, with lots of holes for fixing points. You might be able to form a cradle/ring around the filter base and attach the other end to something stable using small nuts and bolts.

You could even spray it black for that quality look

I did something similar on one of my other cars, i used a bit of ARB (All round band) comes in rolls from 3 mtr upto 25 mtrs in the big trade packs, its available from most decent electrical wholesalers and plumbers merchants they do it plastic coated and bare and even in different size holes.

All it is a strip of metal about 12mm wide with a hole drilled in it every 20mm or so, just wrap it round the neck of the filter and fasten back to any available stud or bolt, prior to getting hold of this (nicking from work ) i used a bit of metal strapping from the hardware aisle at B&Q and just bent it to suit an existing stud from the previous airbox and used a couple of heavy duty cable ties to hold the filter to the bracket.

Erm P.S just read wellys comment and we are talking about the same stuff , so u could call it ladder strap or u could call it ARB, but its the same stuff and available from just about everywhere the trades shop. a google search tells me ARB about 8-9 quid for 10mtrs online.

Hey, nice. been thinking of doing that too, How is the performance after fitting the air intake ????

the performance is a slight boost, particularly and the higher end of the rev counter, but generally its just to get some cleaner air into the engine than the standard intake, and i like getting a sporty sound without having to fit an exhaust pipe so large i could sleep in it like some of the youths of today. also its blue and shiny

but seriously, id recommend it, i got that one (its K&N) on eBay (brand new) for about £10, theyre pretty easy to fit. you can put the top cover of the original intake back on if you want, but i found that it muffled a lot of the sound, which was kinda the point in buying it, and it does no harm in leaving it off (in any case, i dont know where i put it). as i say the only problem is a bracket or something for it because if you dont secure it it bounces about, which does no damage but its kind of annoying

You can buy a braket thats disgned to bolt it to the body or somthing else close.
