Hi all

Had some new tyres fitted saturday and have noticed some weird noises which i think are coming from the back first of all theres a slight squeak which doesnt seem to bad though when its cold as well theres a duh duh duh "sorry cannot describe noise" which also seems from the rear not sure if the brakes are seizing on the hand brake or whether a wheel bearing is going are bearings common is there any way to tell what is too much play in the bearings. And one last thing since having firestones fitted on the fron the steering feels ever so light and responsive is this normal.

Is this squeak with the car moving? Going over bumps? This duh duh duh, is it dependent on road speed? Not sure about the squeak but the duh duh duh could be a duff or badly fitted tyre.

Rear bearing failure is in the lap of the gods, I used to think it was very uncommon, then we had a spate of them failing.

Hmm, could also be the fitter has distorted one of your back plates...

Might be worth checking the handbrake shoes as well. I know it would be a coincidence having had the tyres changed but I've had the friction material separate from the shoes and that makes a pretty strange noise!

The duh duh noise is when doing high speeds like 70 - 80 on the motorway but only does it when i just jump on the there when the car is cold once ive travelled a small distance it disappears. Not sure how i check if tyres are fitted badly though on rear drivers side when i push and pull the top of the rear it feels like a very small amount of play. Also a few months back a retaining screw fell off the shoes and caused grinding and also my handbrake sometimes sticks. Unfortunately there seems to be many niggly issues that i cannot pinpoint but all i can say is it does disappear after a while not sure if this is brake shoes unsticking or a bad tyre getting warm.

Oh forgot to say not sure if they damaged something the reason i say that is there were 2 guys going like the clappers changing all 4 tyres it must have been the quickest tyre change ive ever had

Have you checked the wheel nuts for tightness? I would do that before anything else.

Yeh checked them tehyre ok though i got to work this morning and found the rear passenger side tyre starting to go flat so that may be the issue need to change it and see how i go on the way home then i will have to take it back and get it sorted which i cant do until saturday im a little annoyed to say the least. You pay for extra for good tyres and they dont bloody fit them properly

I also have just noticed after putting on my spare there is no balancing weight on does that matter

Might be a perfect tyre that didn't need balancing

Or they forgot because they were in a hurry...

Well it did look like the either employed hillbillies or chavs to do the work lol lets just hope the spare is ok as then im really screwed if it pops

Have wondered if the rumbling or duh duh duh noise is the rear handbrake shoes have notice and annoying noise which is like an intermittent squeel or squeak not sure its from teh rear brakes and whether that could be connected is it true dmfs also squeak

To check if the handbrake shoes are giving you this noise, run up the road in the car and gently pull on the handbrake with the button pressed, see if the noise gets worse or disappears.
I wonder if the backplates have been damaged with removing the wheels, ie, the backplates are hitting the discs.
Have you tried jacking up the car, putting it on axle stands and spinning the wheels?
Might be worth changing the wheels from back to front to see if the noise moves with them.

Backplate noise is just a constant droning, getting louder with speed. Seems to be caused by the metal in the seam between the inner and outer parts corroding and swelling up so it comes in contact with the inner part of the disc
