I'm looking to change the spark plugs on my car ASAP...

would the SRI benefit from some NGK Iridiums, or would I be better off getting some conventional boggo NGK's instead ?

or to put it another way...

what do you usually use

My plugs are apparently "dealer only", so I'm no help either

I did once get my friendly local mechanic to source some non-OE ones for me, but they were shyte!

I just use the plain plugs on mine. I ran it with the 4 electrode jobbies and it didn't make a toss of difference.

using uprated spark plus has sod all to do with the PERFORMANCE of the spark plug, a spark is a spark, whatever language it speaks or what caused it etc.

twin, triple or quad spark plugs LAST LONGER, this is because the electrodes lose a little bit of themselves when the spark happens, so when they get smaller, the next electrode becomes the closets one and takes over, i.e the elctricity takes the shortest route, having 4 electrodes does not mean 4 sparks, just that it takes four times as long for the distance between center and closest electrode to become too much for efficient running.

The guy's asking for the best sparks for an XU10J2TE and tbh, the only answer here is "the cheapest crap you can get your hands on" See my thread about a turbo issue with this lump. I'll be very surprised if the fix (once I figure out what it is) involves more than an elastoplast or blob of hot glue

Wasn't it Puggy (what happened to him?) who went to a meet in his HDI, lost turbo pressure, and fixed it with a beer can and a couple of jubilee clips?

If you want to know about a gas reflow head, we're not the best people to ask, but 9 times out of 10 we can advise on how to fix a 406 issue with minimal cash outlay

406s (bar the V6) aren't high performance cars - they're just supremely comfortable for the money and capable of soaking up 1000s of motorway miles without inducing backaches. That's what the 406 is to most of us, and if you want outside of that, we'll help to the extent of our knowledge and experience, but for the most part if you're outside of this you're probably on your own...... but we'd still love to know so we can pass on knowledge to others

I'm beginning to regret the "minimum outlay" comment - I doubt that was the sole reason this forum was started, it's just ended up that way. When I were a lad I could have said stuff about fast road cams, ported heads, bigger carbs etc. but these days it's got a lot more complicated - hell, even running these cars has got a lot more complicated! Let's face it, they're so bleedin' over-complicated even a fault code's not much use, it might point you to the offending article or it might lead you up a blind alley because only experience and a large amount of knowledge would allow you to interpret it correctly. And even then you'd only be taking educated guesses

So, what do I know about spark plugs? I dunno about now but 20 years ago they weren't all the same - apart from stuff like dimensions some lasted longer than others, some had built-in resistance, some didn't and there was a lot about the heat characteristics. If you pulled them out and they were sooty you put some hotter plugs in, if they looked burned and glazed you put cooler plugs in. But then they were cheap and you changed them pretty much as often as you changed the oil.

Right, plugs. Go down to Halfords, look in their book for all the different plugs listed for the tubby, then select whichever ones come in the flashiest box with the longest words and prettiest diagrams on the back, take them to the till and hand over a couple of limbs...

Or you could just get basic, good make ones off the internet and congratulate yourself at saving lots of money.
