hello all!,

i picked up my white D8 saloon today and it makes a nasty buzz, i knew the exhaust was loose i took it down kwik fit and the back box was gone so i had a new one fitted and snooped around under the car while it was up in the air and all looks nice and straight and the rest of the exhaust system is hung perfect but now when driving at about 2000rpm i get this buzzing noise from under the bonnet it sounds as though its plastic its definatly not a metallic noise! and its definatly not in the car! does anyone know what could be causing this? it disappears when you go over 2500rpm so its only something at that particular vibration that makes the noise, its annoying the hell out of me! lol

Nothing specific but on my Ashtray there was a heatshield around the front part of the exhaust as it came down the front of the engine that was buzzing like hell - dealer's recommendation was to chop it off and bin it. Can you hear it if you rev the engine while it's stationary?

ahh i see well i had a new exhaust put on it and behind the back box someone had screwed on half a plastic oil can as a heat shield! i had that taken off straight away! yeah you can hear it from stationary and it doesnt rattle or buzz if you hit a bump or anything its just between 2000 and 2500 rpm but you cant hear it from outside though just inside and its definatly nothing inside you can tell its from the engine bay!

i found it! the right hand top engine mount is rattling so a new one me thinks...

Unlike the bottom mount, the top one is very easy to change yourself.

i think im having the same problem, sounds like its coming from the centre near my feet and it defo does it at certain revs

oh dear i read that earlier i can always be thankful i suppose, yeah its right at the top it looks easy you have like a fork facing the bulkhead and there is a metal knuckle sitting in the fork attached to the inner wing and thats whats buzzing the way i tested it was i pulled the accelertor cable so the engine hit 2000 rpm and i rested my spanner on the main bolt on the mount and it jingled and bounced all over the place when i made the engine go over 2500rpm it didnt even vibrate ive wedged a lump of bluetac to stop the rattling because its doing my sodding head in so im guessing it may just be the rubber, i dont know if you can buy these separate but while its off i might as well just put a whole new one on! its no big deal seeing as ive got 2 cars to use now! but i must be honest the bottom mount on the engine looks easy enough to get to as the 1.8 looks lost in that engine bay!
