More Beans at 4000rpm - a V6 trait?

As the title suggests really, my newly aquired, gas guzzling beast seems to really take off after 4000rpm. It's akin to when the turbo kicks in on a turbo diesel. Here's a few videos -

It doesn't seem quite so apparent on the videos but it's certainly noticable.

Yes and no. A lot of V6 owners think so, but my last one didn't
Personally I think it's less 'feel' more 'hear' anyway. The standard exhaust system is quiet until 4000rpm where it gets noticeably noisier. My last V6 had a horrible cheap system that was noisy whatever the revs and I think that may be why it didn't seem to have the surge. That car definitely wasn't down on power either as I managed to overtake an M3 sat on its speed limiter
If you're concerned, the obvious things to check are the air filter, lower air hose, spark plugs, oxygen sensor, coolant temperature sensor, intake air temperature sensor and cat

Anyone else with a V6 experienced this?
I'm sure with the accelerator 75% or more down, mine noticeably drops power at 3000 rpm, then picks up again at 4000 rpm. It's weird - like the flick of a switch. With light applications of throttle it moves through the revs smoothly though.

^ I fixed this by blanking off the idle control valve hose. Must've been sticking open and making it run lean. Heaps more power now too.

You don't think it's dangerous stalling whenever you change gear while braking?

Well I never got to the bottom of the problem, just learned to live with it. I grew to like it actually, it was almost like having a turbo.
The car recently died on me, turned out to be the crankshaft pulley damper. Got that replaced but after the car had sat around for 2 days it decided it didn't want to start anymore. Changed the plugs to no avail so if anyone wants to swap it for a measly £200 give me a shout, otherwise it'll be turned into a fridge.

Oh, I also moved the clip on the throttle cable so that it won't stall.
And mine's a D8 and definitely gives a bit of a kick at 4000 rpm.
