Hey take it easy! We've all been busy around the new year!
£350 is a pretty good price for the clutch, how long have you had the car?
Any other problems as you don't seem to rate it that highly?!

These things are sent to try us at the best of times! :)

If you've got a knocking from the front O/S it'll be either:
Antirollbar bushes/droplinks
Top engine mount

I had the same problem, replaced all of the above and it turned out to be the pear shapped rubber mount that screws into the wheel arch that the mount bolts on to. Basically it was loose; you have to remove the top mount to tighten it up but it's an easy job.
Re the handbrake; jack up the back and take the wheels off; you'll see a rubber plug in each disc (or not if they've been lost!!).
When you turn the disc to a certain point you'll see the teeth of a gear (a torch helps!); this is the shoe adjuster. With the handbrake released tighten this as far as it will go then back it off about 4 clicks, until you can turn the disc freely. Same on the other side.If the cable has never been replaced the cable adjuster will be rusted solid and you'll have to change the cables.
Check the condition of the antirollbar bushes while you're there as these will most likely be fecked, fairly easy DIY job as well. Also check for any play in the wheel while it's jacked up; the top links and antirollbar links are fairly common failure points which will cause play in the wheel.
Hope this helps, there are loads of threads regarding the handbrake!
