2.1 td running problems

Post by sps311271 »

hi all

ok i have been thro 50 odd pages looking for the problem i have, first of all as far as i know this car has not been run on home brew.

the problems started about 6 months ago, the engine has eratic idle and surges upto approx 2000 rpm then is fine above this, secondly when slowing down the 'k' light comes on engine stalls but starts straight away, i have no problems starting cold or hot.

im getting air in the system before the filter housing, all rubber fuel joints have been replaced also a new primer bulb fitted and genuine peugeot fuel filter replaced.

when this first started i removed the fuel lift pump removed gauze and put back in, disconnected battery bled the system and ran fine for about 3 weeks then the problems reaccured but alot worse now i have tried this again but no difference this time, is it the fuel lift pump? or something else do i need to spend the money and get it plugged in?

im still getting 550 to 650 to a tank of fuel any help would be appreciated as its driving me up the wall now

thanks

all the issues can be caused by air in the system,
you need to find the air leak.get a bit of clear pipe and join it into the system at every join to work out where the air leak is coming from.

hi

done as u said got clear pipe into all joints, looks like air is getting in at the fuel tank end does this mean fuel lift pump seals have gone?

it stalled 23 times in 5 miles today getting really frustrated now priced one up at local peugeot dealer £168 + vat is it possibly anything else??

I had the same problem with mine, but I must admit it started after running biodeisel.
You may well have an air leak on the base of the filter housing, the best way to sort this is to remove it, replace the O ring seal and when you put it back on use some fuel resistant sealant as well. also there's a thermostat on the left hand side of the filter housing (small round white bit) this can also leak, wipe some sealant on this wile your at it.
I had mine pluged in on a Lexia (PSA fault code reader) and it said there was a problem with the TDC sensor.

In the end I changed the pump and it ran fine, so I think it was a pump problem, but sort out a posable air leak before you go changing the pump.

If all alse fails, I have a pump that was working fine when removed.

dose the 2.1 have a lift pump?
i thought it would just suck the fule threw like a lucas pump on a 306/205 td etc.

where the lines go into the tank take it apart and see if theres a pump in there, if there is it may be the fault but it may also have a filter on it that is bolcked up or somthing.

id also try missing out the pump and put a bit of pipe straight in the tank and see if it fixes the issue.

pluss @ £168 id get a second hand one too.

edit: no i wouldnt id get a facet pump for £30.

I had the surging problem and it turned out to be the fuel temperature sensor, it's an easy, cheap(ish) and quick fix. Dunno if you've tried that?

hi again,

this problem has reacurred, this time no air is getting into system, been put on computer nothing comes up, fuel pump been checked working fine, new fuel lines fitted yet still running like a pig, seems to be worse when cold than hot. Also took battery off for a day to reset ECU no difference.

Does anyone have any ideas???

thanks

Hi.Erratic running, that is the engine revving up and down intermittantly, usually at low engine speeds can be caused by the air con temp sender which is the green one screwed into the geargox end of the cylinder head. You will need a deep socket to get it out but its a simple and cheap repair. It cured mine like forever. The part number is P133878 and if I remember rightly was about £12 four years ago (from my Pug dealer)

Hi mate. What size is the socket? I have a couple of plug sockets...somewhere...which will no doubt be even numbers :?
I'd sooner borrow the right sized deep socket nad make things easy, rather than fannying around with an adjustable with no room!

When I changed that sensor I used a ring spaner 18 or 19mm, but you will need to disconect the battory afterwards to reset the ecu.
