just wondering where the rev counter gets a signal from, on the 2.1 td 406.
many people have sugested its from the injector wire but i know its not that as if you unplug it it still works.
anyone know for sure?

thanks

Surely it's the engine speed sensor via the ECU :?

What would a diesel need with a TDC sensor? Engine speed sensor, I think it's on the clutch housing.

Not sure where it gets it's signal from but I've swaped my pump for a Bosch and the rev counter still works, but only untill you go above 3000rpm then it stops untill you restart the engine.
The 2.1 does have a TDC sensor, it's inside the Lucas pump and is used by the ECU to set the timing (so I've been told).

Have you got a problem with your's then ?

yeah same as you bud
has a bosh pump and the revs cut out at 3k,
i know an early ecu will work but wonderd if theres an easyer way round it,

all rev counters that i have seen or looked at the electrical diagrams for take there signal from the crank sensor
