peugeot 406 coolant level

Hi,

I've got a 1998 406 Coupe and I want to check the cooland level as the temperature gauge reading varies more than I've seen on any other car? Once warm the reading moves between 70 and 100 and wavers so I'd like to make sure there's enough coolant. I know where to top up the coolant but can't see where to check the level? I've added a tiny amount of anti freeze but have no idea now if i've over filled?

The manual doesn't seem to be of any help either?
