Hi, I have a 406 hdi 2002, it has 120000 miles on it, and 2 weeks ago started to suffer from lack of power also black smoke coming from exaust, it was put on a diagnostic tester at my local garage and they advised i replace the EGR valve and the air flow meter,
this has been done and the car is no better, is it posible that the turbo is faulty, can any one help.
thanks jimmy

May sound a stupid question but have you checked all the hoses?

I'd second that, I'd definitely be lookinng for air leaking somewhere.
Did they check the car physically or stick it straight on the machine?
Holey hoses with throw the EGR valve and give weird diagnostic results.

Hi mate, they never checked the car they just plugged it to the machine and the two faults came up, the car was back in the garage today, i told him to take the exhaust off from the manifold to c if the turbo was wrkn glad to c that was ok, but the car just wont rev over 3000 revs, when the air flow meter is disconnected the car pulls away quicker but there is a lot of smoke, think i will check the hoses for myself cause when i take the car back to the garage they seem to smile cause there bill mounts up. thanks very much for your help.
Cheers jimmy

I would defo start with checking the hoses for splits or frays a diagnostic computer is only as good as the user ive seen them send technicians barking up the wrong tree before now
